Introducing the project partners

Smart FOX is a promising project in health data research that is supported by 19 partner organizations. The aim of the project is to make significant progress in various areas of health data donation and research over the next two years.

AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest non-university research institution and is the specialist among European research institutions for the key infrastructure issues of the future. Around 1,400 employees at 10 Austrian locations conduct research into technologies and solutions in areas such as energy, health, transportation, automation, etc. The Digital Health Information Systems Competence Unit conducts research and development to make the primary and secondary use of health data more efficient, secure and sustainable.

Dedalus is a global healthcare software company and one of the largest in the world. DIO (Data Intelligence Offensive)​

The Data Intelligence Offensive is an association for the promotion of the data economy and the optimization of data technologies and a cooperation platform that networks stakeholders in AT and the EU along the data value chain.

We aim to promote European values such as data autonomy in the basic technical design and in various regulatory provisions.

EIT Health Austria GmbH

EIT Health was founded in 2015 as a ‘Knowledge and Innovation Community’ (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The EIT is made up of different KICs, each focusing on a different sector or area of innovation – in our case, health and ageing. The idea behind the EIT KICs is that innovation thrives best when the right people are brought together to share their expertise. The so-called ‘knowledge triangle’ is the principle that when experts from business, research and education work together, an optimal environment for innovation is created.

ELGA GmbH

ELGA was founded by resolution on November 20, 2009. The owners are the federal government, the provinces and the social insurance funds in Austria.

The purpose of the company is “the non-profit provision of services in the public interest in the area of e-health for the introduction and implementation of the electronic health record (ELGA)”.

In addition to the existing ELGA applications e-Befund and e-Medikation, the e-Impfpass also runs on the basis of the secure ELGA infrastructure.

We aim to promote European values such as data autonomy in the basic technical design and in various regulatory provisions.

fragmentiX is an Austrian cyber security company that was founded in 2018 and sells its products worldwide through partners and distributors.

fragmentiX develops and produces secret sharing appliances (such as fragmentiX CLUSTER) in Austria that work with distributed storage systems – S3, Azure, NFS… – and thus give users the opportunity to store relevant data in the best possible way.

Gesundheit Österreich GmbH

The GÖG is Austria’s national public health institute. It is owned by the BMSGPK, but is professionally independent in its scientific activities (GÖG Act).

Its tasks include

  • Generating evidence for planning and controlling the healthcare system,
  • Management of various official registers (health professions, transplant, …),
  • Competence center for population health, health promotion, prevention, care planning, climate and health and quality in healthcare,
  • Interface to the internat. public health landscape, partly in official representation of Austria

Human.technology Styria GmbH

Human.technology Styria GmbH (HTS) is a cluster organization founded in 2004 with a focus on human technologies. We are the hub of a cluster of around 150 Styrian companies working in the field of human health.
We act as a hub for contacts, know-how and information for this community.
Our aim is to create economic added value for the cluster community, to further develop the strengths of the region in a targeted manner and thus improve the international visibility of the location.

IT-Services der Sozialversicherung GmbH

IT-Services der Sozialversicherung GmbH (ITSV GmbH), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Austrian social insurance institutions, has been combining bundled social insurance expertise, efficiency and security to form the heart of the IT activities of the Austrian social insurance system for almost 20 years. This has made it possible to standardize the various IT systems in the social insurance sector, merge data centers and simplify administrative tasks.

In 2022, we founded the Austrian Patient Advisory Board – for cooperation in dealing with research issues in the healthcare sector. Through the participatory research approach “Open Innovation in Science”, we give patients and citizens a say in healthcare projects.

Medical University of Graz - Diagnostic and Research Institute of Pathology

The Med Uni Graz has over 2,500 employees and around 5,000 students and cooperates with the LKH University Hospital Graz, which operates 1,500 beds.

Med Uni Graz operates one of the largest biobanks in Europe (ISO 9001:2015 certified) and is a member of the European research infrastructure BBMRI-ERIC/BBMRI.at.

Medical University of Vienna - Institute of Outcomes Research (OR)

The Medical University of Vienna is one of the oldest, most renowned and largest medical universities in the German-speaking world. The Institute for Outcomes Research focuses on outcomes research.

The Medical University of Vienna measures and analyzes the effects of treatments. In doing so, they also take the patient’s perspective into account. Digitized endpoints, evidence-based patient pathways and clinical dashboards are basic requirements for the personalized medicine of the future.

Probando GmbH

Probando is involved in applied research and develops technologies that have a positive impact on various areas of life. With its focus on digital solutions, Probando makes a significant contribution to the further development and improvement of healthcare in the digital age.

Probando is a recruitment platform for patients and volunteers and is active in 21 countries worldwide. Probando Pay processes direct payments to patients for study participation in compliance with all clinical regulations.

Survivors is an interest group and was founded in 2003 within the Austrian Children’s Cancer Aid with the original aim of promoting and structuring the exchange with survivors.

Today, Survivors offers its own association and thus comprehensive support for people who have/had cancer in childhood, adolescence or young adulthood in the form of various projects.

telbiomed Medizintechnik und IT Service GmbH​

TELBIOMED is a spin-off company of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology with a focus on digital healthcare services. The company designs, implements and operates tbm Digital Healthcare Solutions for healthcare providers, health insurance companies and pharmaceutical customers.

It offers turnkey telemedicine solutions that support the collection of healthcare data and the coordinated teamwork of all parties involved, including clinics, GPs, nurses, patients and helpdesks. The standardized solutions feature fully integrated measurement devices and MDD-certified software modules for automated trend monitoring and advanced analytics.

Tirol Kliniken GmbH

The Institute for Clinical Epidemiology was founded in 1986 – back then as the Tyrol Tumor Registry – and has greatly expanded its field of activity over time.

Since 2017, it has been part of the State Institute for Integrated Care (LIV) Tirol of Tirol Kliniken GmbH. Its traditional tasks include the collection, preparation, examination and statistical processing of data on specific clinical pictures or medical interventions. Furthermore, the research and application of modern digitalization, decision support and the development of prediction models play a central role at the IET.

UMIT TIROL - Division for Integrated Care and Telehealth

As a modern, private health university, UMIT TIROL specializes in current professional and research fields as well as challenges in healthcare and technology. The main focus of the Division for Health Networking and Telehealth at UMIT TIROL is on the establishment and further development of efficient and innovative solutions in the healthcare sector.

The division’s pillars include the development and use of telemedical solutions in healthcare programs. The division also deals with data integration and information management and is currently establishing the clinical data warehouse of the tirol kliniken.
Modeling and simulation is another application and research focus of the division (e.g. “surviral”, the epidemiological early detection system).

University of Vienna - Department of Innovation and Digitalisation in Law

The Institute for Innovation and Digitalization in Law was founded in 2017 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna. The Institute for Innovation and Digitalization in Law sees itself as the Faculty of Law’s link to the digital revolution.

It deals with a variety of legal issues in the modern media and information society that arise from the rapid and continuous increase in technological innovations. The Institute is particularly concerned with information technology and intellectual property law, with a special focus on data protection law and copyright law.

Adequate responses to the legal, ethical and social issues that arise with the development of technology require an interdisciplinary approach. The Institute is therefore working on a number of multidisciplinary, externally funded projects, particularly in the field of healthcare.
